Asperger's and Religion

This has moved here.

  1. I really wonder where these completely absurd reports come from, and what kinds of questions people ask to arrive at these conclusions.

I have Asperger's, and I used to work as a lay rabbi! I've always seen the purpose behind the events of my life; in fact, it's been one of my passions. A lot of my friends with Asperger's are spiritual, thoughtful, reflective people. Some aren't interested in these questions, but that's just normal human variety.

Who are the researchers asking here? Five year old kids? It's the rare five year old of any neurology who will say, "Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I was just meditating on this question today..." I mean, really.

  2. Exactly! I was just shocked that this was even an issue. My 10 year old is very grounded in his Christianity. Much more than many adults. It makes sense to him, because it IS black and white. He also truly knows that no matter what...God is ALWAYS his friend and ALWAYS there for and with him. Couldn't be anything better for a young child with Asperger's. Thanks for your insight.

  3. I find this interesting. As a child I was very grounded in faith, but now as a 33year old mom I struggle a lot more. Probably because I am still trying to wrap my head around being an "aspie" and how/if/when to talk to my kids about it. Right now I feel like I am trying to convince myself I am still a good mom dispute being an aspie. It's terrifying to think what my kids, family and the rest of the world will say about it.
I have 6 beautiful kids and right now I feel as if I'm to broken to be a good mom. How am I suppose to teach them about a world I don't understand...

    1. We all have doubts about wether we are good enough parents from time to time. Your children love you and you love them. They are not judging if you are good enough. We are often hardest on ourselves. As for teaching them about religion and faith... I would just make an effort to get them into a solid church that believes the way you do and let the church family help in teaching them about faith, etc. A good strong church family can help in so many ways.Take care and feel free to give me updates. I will be praying for you and your family as you work on this. Hugs!
