I very rarely get writers block on all my projects at once, so I usually just wind up working on the "wrong" writing project when I have writers block. It's doesn't help me much with the project I was hoping to work on, but it sometimes saves me some time later. It's also apparently pretty common in Autistic folks, especially those of us with executive functioning problems. Which might be most of us.
I had not thought about that (being able to work on the "wrong project"). He may be able to do that, but he would likely be too frustrated at this point to "allow" that. Maybe he felt the need to keep going like you may, but since he could not write what he wanted he chose to be productive in a completely different way. He likes things to happen the way he has them all planned out... but don't we all. He is twelve years old, so we are still figuring this all out. Maybe I need to look into "executive functioning problems". I have not heard of that before. I personally am not on the spectrum myself, but I do have ADD, Dyslexia, and Sensory Processing Disorder. I can understand to a point, but it sure helps to see the point of view from others who can likely understand what he is experiencing better, so I always appreciate insight given. I just thought that he was extremely clever with his little sign and its placement. I honestly would have never even thought of that. Thank you so much for your comment and your insight. Take care!
