Union Pacific is Celebrating 150 Years!

Union Pacific’s Steam Locomotive No. 844 will be on display at Union Pacific Rail Yard, 1 South Pyramid Way, Sparks, Nevada on September 26, 2012 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  There is free event parking and shuttle transportation at the Nugget Hotel in Sparks. This engine was the last steam locomotive that was built specifically for the Union Pacific. The Promontory (a 1962 vintage baggage car that has been transformed into a traveling museum) will also be present!

My family and I followed the train yesterday as it was traveling into the Sparks area.  These pictures are from our experiences first in Lockwood, Nevada and then in Sparks, Nevada.  It was a wonderful experience to see, hear, and FEEL the train drive by!  What I mean by "feel" is the fact that when the whistle blew as it traveled past us, it was SO loud that I actually felt it in the core of my body.  It was that powerful!  It did make "Buddy" upset a bit, because part of his Asperger's issues have to do with loud noises, but he got over it pretty quickly.

  1. My father in law loved trains. Since his passing, my husband has gotten more sentimental about trains and we enjoy living close, but not too close to the tracks. There is something almost majestically/magical about trains!
